The Unicorn Theatre would like to acknowledge with thanks the generous funding received from the Bay Treasure Chest (BTC). The support of the BTC has made it possible for Unicorn to offer even more extraordinary theatrical experiences to young people both as actors and audience.

For the first time in more than 20 years, there were no Summer Drama Camps at Unicorn Theatre last July and August, thanks to Covid-19 restrictions. A few months ago, we decided to bring back the Camps for Summer ’21, and although the Halifax area is currently in the grip of a 4-week lockdown we hope to go ahead with our plans when the current restrictions are lifted.

Online registration was originally planned to open on May 13 but will be postponed until restrictions are lifted sufficiently to allow the Camps to run. Information about the new registration date will be posted on our website and Facebook page as soon as it is available.

Unicorn Theatre’s Summer Drama Camps

are Back!

Maia, Aidan and all our Wonderful Camp Staff are back with 6 weeks of SUMMER THEATRE FUN for aspiring actors going into Grades 2–7. Here are some things you need to know about this year’s Camp program:

  • Camps start on July 5 and finish on August 13. 9-3 daily.
  • Two groups: Entering Grades 2-4 and 5-7
  • Maximum number of participants per week: 30. Two cohorts of 15 that will be totally separate.
  • Child Care offered Monday to Friday 8-9 and 3-5 and Friday 8-9 only (parents usually pick up children after the Friday show). Cohorts separate.
  • All Covid-19 protocols will be strictly followed including masking, sanitizing, cleaning, social distancing, and Self-Checking.
  • Because of lower numbers, fees per child this year will be $150, with no discounts. This increase is necessary to cover our expenses.
  • Online registration opens May 13, 9 am. No registrations will be accepted before then.
  • Parents may register their child(ren) initially for one camp week. If spots remain open after a certain time, it may be possible to register for additional weeks of camp.

All the Covid-19 Health and Safety protocols will be in effect in the Bay Community Centre during theatre activities throughout the season. These will include the wearing of masks, the signing of a declaration re. symptoms and contacts before children can participate, extensive cleaning of high-touch surfaces, observing of rules around physical contact, banning of all food and drink except individual water bottles, and liberal use of hand sanitizer. As well, the number of people in the various rooms will be monitored.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email, or call the theatre at 902-826-1687
